Bark Chips

Bark Chips

  • Provide a decorative mulch in beds and borders
  • Can also be used in larger pots and planters
  • Reduce weeds by denying them light
  • Create natural pathways anywhere in the garden

Vitax Bark Chips will provide an attractive finish to any bed or border all round the garden.

The chips provide an ideal background against which to display your plants and shrubs, but they also act as a very effective mulch, providing excellent weed suppression. The chips also aid water retention in the soil and provide insulation for roots against extremes of temperature.

The bark chips can be used across all beds and borders. First make sure that all weeds and debris are removed from the bed and then simply spread the chips in an even, continuous layer across the open soil right up to the stems of plants. The decorative mulch will reduce the occurrence of weeds by denying them light.

To increase the efficiency of weed suppression, many gardeners install a perforated black/green plastic or fabric membrane over the soil and then spread the bark chips over this to create the perfect finish.

The combination of the membrane and bark chips provides the ultimate in weed suppression while allowing easy access for water and nutrients to the soil and roots.

Vitax Bark Chips can also be used as a decorative mulch in larger pots, planters and containers. Used in this way, the chips will reduce the occurrence of weeds, help conserve water and provide thermal protection for containerised plants.

Vitax Bark Chips also provide a way to to create attractive, natural pathways anywhere in the garden.

Simply clear the pathway of debris and weeds and firm the ground. For maximum weed suppression cover with plastic or fabric membrane and then spread with a layer of Vitax Bark Chips. The result is a completely natural pathway that will blend perfectly with surrounding plantings.

Farmyard Manure

Farmyard Manure

  • Great soil conditioner – adds humus and organic matter and increases bio-activity
  • Ideal mulch – helps feed the plants, retains moisture, protects against extreme temperatures
  • Improves vegetable growth – provides slow release nutrients to the vegetable patch

Used by gardeners for centuries to enrich and improve the soil, farmyard manure is rich in organic nutrients and remains ideal for many applications in the modern garden, including soil conditioning, planting and mulching.

Farmyard manure breaks down naturally in the soil, releasing a supply of nutrients and adding humus and organic matter which increase essential bio-activity to improve soil structure and drainage.

Vitax Farmyard Manure is ideal for use whether you are growing vegetables, fruit, flowers, shrubs or trees.

To use as a soil conditioner simply spread a layer of Vitax Farmyard Manure, about 5 cms deep, across the surface of the soil and fork in to a depth of about 20cms. This action will benefit all types of soil. On light sandy soils, the manure will increase the organic matter in the soil, improve nutrient content and help retention of moisture. On heavier, clay soils, it will break down the structure of the clay and improve drainage.

Vitax Farmyard Manure is also an ideal mulch on borders. Simply spread a 5cm layer around and between the plants. It will help feed the plants, retain moisture in the soil and provide protection against temperature extremes . The mulch will also help suppress weed growth.
